🇷🇸 Vucic resigns to seek Serbia's premiership

Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic has resigned to seek the premiership in a snap parliamentary election on 25 October.

He is barred from seeking a third presidential term, and Parliament Speaker Ana Brnabic will serve as acting president pending a presidential election.

The vote follows nearly two years of student-led protests triggered by the Novi Sad railway-station canopy collapse, which killed 16 people in November 2024.

The student-backed Students Win movement is fielding 250 candidates with support from several opposition parties, including the Democratic Party.

Vucic and his allies reject protesters' allegations of corruption and political interference, and he has said he would acknowledge an opposition victory.

4️⃣ 🇻🇪 Venezuelans rally for Machado's return: Supporters of Venezuelan opposition leader Maria Corina Machado rallied for her safe return from exile and presidential elections. Hundreds joined a motorcade in Caracas, with demonstrations also held in Valencia, Maracaibo and Merida, as her party said repeated attempts to return had failed.

5️⃣ 🇺🇦 Ukraine reports drone aid deliveries to Oleshky: Kherson Governor Oleksandr Prokudin said Ukrainian forces had delivered around four tonnes of food by drone to 100 locations in Russian-occupied Oleshky. He said Russian forces had tried to disrupt the deliveries by shooting down aid drones and confiscating supplies intended for residents.
