US President Donald Trump said Russia and Ukraine had agreed to an energy ceasefire that would take effect immediately.
Moscow did not immediately comment, and President Trump provided no details of the agreement.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy welcomed the announcement and said Kyiv was ready to refrain from striking Russian energy facilities if Moscow reciprocated.
President Zelenskyy also reported continuing attacks on energy facilities in Kyiv and Kharkiv.
Ukraine's presidential office said a power plant in Kharkiv was struck after President Trump's announcement.
