Some American officials suggested the report could be an effort to sway the president's decision-making on Iran, and the US had not vetted the intelligence itself.

2️⃣ 🇩🇿🇲🇱 Algeria and Mali restore diplomatic ties: More than a year after their fallout over a downed surveillance drone, both countries are reinstating ambassadors and reopening their airspace to one another. 🇺🇸🇮🇷 US launches new wave of strikes on Iran

The US military began a fresh round of strikes on Sunday night to continue degrading Iran's ability to attack shipping in the Strait of Hormuz, CENTCOM said, after hitting more than 300 military targets over three nights.

Iran's foreign ministry said the attacks had "rendered futile" months of efforts to reduce tension, while its own strikes on US facilities extended to Qatar, a mediator not targeted since April, and the UAE.

Tehran again declared the strait closed, with its new Persian Gulf Strait Authority saying passage would resume once "stability and calm are restored," though CENTCOM said some ships were continuing to cross.

Iran's top negotiator Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf declared "the era of one-sided deals is OVER," while President Trump, who considers the ceasefire finished but has left the door open to talks, said of the strikes: "We're beating them up."

Oil rose more than 3.5% when futures trading opened in Tokyo, with WTI above $74 a barrel, a politically sensitive climb for the White House ahead of November's congressional elections.
