🇮🇱🇱🇧 Netanyahu vows to maintain Lebanon occupation despite Iran ceasefire

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declared at a press conference that Israeli forces will remain indefinitely in the approximately 570sq km of Lebanese territory they occupy, as well as in Syrian and Gaza territory, regardless of a US-Iran ceasefire agreement announced over the weekend.

The deal, brokered with Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif's involvement, reportedly includes provisions for ending military operations on all fronts including Lebanon, though details remain unconfirmed.

Israel launched a strike on Beirut's suburbs on Sunday killing three people, reportedly angering President Trump who feared it could derail the ceasefire, though the memorandum of understanding was still signed that night.

Netanyahu acknowledged he does not always agree with Trump, stating he is "responsible for Israel's security interests," while Defence Minister Israel Katz separately vowed opposition to any army withdrawal from Lebanon, Syria, or Gaza regardless of future pressure.
