🇺🇸🇮🇷 US-Iran war escalates as more troops killed and strikes intensify

The US military announced another service member had been killed as it launched fresh airstrikes on Iran's Revolutionary Guard in response to the deaths of American troops, bringing the toll to 17 US personnel killed since the war began.

Iran fired missiles toward Jordan that Israel warned could spill fire into its territory, while Iranian authorities said at least 50 people had been killed and 517 wounded in the latest US strikes.

US Central Command said it hit coastal surveillance, air defence and missile sites to degrade Iran's control of the Strait of Hormuz, where shipping has largely stalled and Iran blamed the US for a tanker "accident."

Iran has suspended its commitments under last month's interim deal, with the supreme leader declaring the accord signed by President Donald Trump "worthless and invalid" and warning of "unforgettable lessons" if attacks continue.

The renewed fighting, now in its second week, has seen both sides strike civilian infrastructure including bridges, water desalination plants and power facilities.
