5️⃣ 🇿🇦 South Africa votes in local elections: South Africans voted for local councils, including in the country’s eight biggest municipalities. The vote tests support for the African National Congress, which lost its parliamentary majority in 2024 and governs nationally in coalition with local rival the Democratic Alliance and other parties.

🇺🇸 Democrats win both chambers of Congress

Democrats’ victory in both chambers of Congress gives them new tools to challenge US President Donald Trump’s policy towards Iran, Israel and Ukraine.

The shift in Congress could influence President Trump’s approach, but he will retain broad powers over US foreign policy.
