🇨🇳 China expels two senior generals

China's Communist Party has expelled two senior generals, Zhang Youxia and Liu Zhenli, following a leadership meeting in Beijing, according to state news agency Xinhua.

Zhang was the senior vice-chairman of the Central Military Commission and was widely regarded as Chinese President Xi Jinping's closest military ally.

Liu was a member of the commission and chief of its Joint Staff Department, with both men having come under investigation in January.

Party leaders accused the pair of disloyalty, corruption and dereliction of duty, and referred their cases to military legal authorities for review and prosecution.

The expulsions still require ratification at a plenary meeting of the party's Central Committee.

The 65-year-old faces one count relating to genocide and six relating to murder as a crime against humanity, with prosecutors alleging that he directed and incited acts committed by others.

5️⃣ 🇬🇲 Former death-squad leader faces military court: Sanna Manjang, a former leader of the Junglers death squad under former Gambian President Yahya Jammeh, appeared before a military court on a desertion charge after fleeing the country in 2017. A separate four-count murder case was dropped in July because of difficulties securing witnesses, while another trial over alleged assault remains ongoing.
